do you know
understand me
words mean nothing
language is an important thing

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I coordinate a language team, 6 different cultures, 9 workers.
I am learning a few words, I am learning what it is like to leave your home because of war, because you dream of a better life, because you have no choice, and end up in a world where people are speaking a way you don’t understand.
I am learning what it is like to be differernt, to be treated so badly because you can’t express yourself clearly, to be attacked because of your race, to have people assume because you are from a certain race you have certain characteristics, certain stereotypes.
I am learning, that language is no barrier if you really want to help, that your actions speak any language
I love my job
  1. That sounds like a worthwhile job!
    Like your poem – the first line’s a belter! I suppose the first stanza is a word list and the second qualifies it – but it does have a certain something!
  2. I like the jumbled feeling of this poem. Your job sounds very interesting.
  3. I think I’d love your job, too! It reads to me that you are separating words and language and that words are noises without language attached. I remember an interpersonal communication exercise where two people could only speak to each other by using the other’s name. Suddenly, their names meant everything. On paper they were speaking nonsense, to each other it was a language of two.
