the dark night

there was no warning
she closed her eyes as normal
but once she was asleep
the dark night overtook her
her dreams took her places she didn’t want to go
places she didn’t know existed
places that scared her
she was enveloped with fear
she awoke gasping
remembered nothing

a play on the “Dark Knight” prompt at matinee muse premiere prompts

  1. I liked your play on the prompt. Your poem reminded me of those dreams that when we awake we are only left with the remnants of fear.

  3. This is engaging and very familiar — we’ve all been there. A great description of ‘night terrors’ in response to the MM prompt.

    here’s mine…

  4. Those are the dreams I think we all fear the ones we can’t remember yet they leave you wondering what happened. Great post.
